KPN sells its French MVNO to Bouygues Telecom

The Netherlands-based KPN is selling its France-based MVNO, KPN France (operating under the Simyo brand), to Bouygues Telecom, the third-largest mobile operator in the country. While the sales amount was not disclosed, we do know that the transaction will be completed by the end of this year, getting Bouygues some 180,000 of KPN’s local customers.
KPN, however, won’t leave the French mobile market and will continue to operate Ortel Mobile, which serves the “cultural segment” in a number of European countries like Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland. Apparently, the operator’s strategy outside of the Netherlands is to focus on the Ortel Mobile’s growth and in that way this deal makes perfect sense for them.
Bouygues, on the other hand, is not that known outside of France, perhaps because its mobile operator unit is just one of their businesses…
